#033 – Guardians of the Galaxy and Unlikely Heroes

On this episode of the Reel World Theology Podcast:

guardians

We talk about one of the biggest movies of the Summer, Guardians of the Galaxy. The tenth film in the MARVEL Cinematic Universe delivers possibly the most fun film to date. Lead by an incredible cast and a clever script, James Gunn turns a relatively unknown comic franchise into a fan favorite among a collection of films that are already highly regarded. Though the story of a band of outlaws that come together to save the galaxy is nothing that hasn’t been done before, Gunn does a great job of giving this one a personality of its own.

Where Are Marvel’s Infinity Stones at Film School Rejects

First off, it’s not 80’s music. It’s 70’s AM hits. There are a million articles out there about it.

Second, Adam Warlock has already returned in the 616 universe. The Infinity Revelation by Jim Starlin (a graphic novel released this year) rebirths Thanos and Warlock and makes it clear that those two stand outside of time and space and are effectively immortal.

Generally love the show and enjoyed this episode especially but there is no way they don’t bring Warlock into the film universe eventually. The cocoon has already been verified as appearing in Thor 2 and Guardians by James Gunn. There is even speculation online that in the post credit scene the cocoon has been opened in the explosion of the infinity stone.

But even without that, you can’t have Thanos without Warlock, or Warlock without Thanos.

Thanks for the pod.

Good additions! Yeah, most of the Warlock stuff I read was after we actually recorded this episode. If only we could go back! I hope Warlock does show up because it will certainly be cool to see some version of his story play out on screen.

Thanks so much for your feedback!
